West Systems G/flex Epoxy

G/flex Epoxy
650-8 G/flex Epoxy
A toughened, versatile, liquid epoxy for permanent waterproof bonding of fiberglass, ceramics, metals, plastics, damp and difficult-to-bond woods. With a modulus of elasticity of 150,000 PSI, it is a bit more flexible than standard epoxies and polyester, but much stiffer than adhesive sealants. This gives G/flex the ability to make structural bonds that can absorb the stress of expansion, contraction, shock and vibration. It is ideal for bonding dissimilar materials. It can be modified with West System fillers and additives, and used to wet-out fiberglass tapes and fabrics. Mixed at a 1:1 ratio, G/flex gives you 45 minutes of working time at room temperature. It reaches an initial cure in 7 to 10 hrs and full cure in 24 hrs.
- Best epoxy out there for knife makers.About four years ago I decided to do a bunch of my own tests with several epoxies used in our industry. The testing was simple and not very scientific, but the results were clear. After laminating many strips of G10 to Desert Ironwood (belt sanded to 120 grit) and a clean bar of AEB-L, then testing failures through prying, razor blade separation, and snap testing, G-Flex always came out on top. There was enough of a difference I gave my remaining inventory of competing epoxies away to my buddies. The slower curing time may be a drawback for some, but there is always something else to do around the shop. Performance wins over speed in my book.

- Excellent epoxy, worth the priceI switched over to this epoxy after watching Red Beard Ops on YouTube do some tests. This stuff is fantastic, extremely strong bonds, I have had zero separation issues with handle scales on knife tangs.
The price sucks. No way around that, it is expensive. Thats not this websites fault, they have comparable prices to a much larger online retailer that rhymes with shamafon, this stuff is just pricey. Now, the real question is: Is it WORTH it? In my opinion, yes. It is additional peace of mind that your product will not fail. I will continue to purchase and use G-Flex, though I might have to use one of my knives to sell an arm or a leg at the rate the prices are increasing.....Posted on
