 Tip: A sheath treatment many use that has with stood the test of time. Use a 50/50 ratio of bees wax and Neatsfoot oil. Melt the beeswax and add the same amount of oil by volume. Don't worry about getting it exact - close is good enough. To use this mixture, heat the wax/oil in a double boiler or an oven. Do NOT heat the wax/oil mix over an open flame or heat it directly on the burner. It can explode, ignite, bubble over and lot's of other dangerous things. If you have never heated wax before, do some studying first. I used a cheap bread loaf pan in the oven and just left the mixture in there between dips. Heat the mix to no more than 150F or you will deep fry your leather! Dip the entire sheath into the hot mix for 30 seconds. Just enough to get the leather good and wet but not completely saturated. Pull it out and let it drip dry on some newspaper. Wipe off the excess. The sheath is now fairly hard and will easily handle any occasional water that comes it's way. As a bonus, the wax/oil mixture will rub off onto the knife and keep rust away from the steel.
