Duane W. makes this material and calls it DewCarta. When you see it you tend to think of canvas Micarta® but this is made by one guy in his own shop. The bright colors are awesome and the definition between the colors is as good as it gets in this type of material. Dewey has molds these in custom dies. You will see a 45 degree (stripes angled) and 90 degree (stripes are vertical along the width) pattern in this handle material. It looks almost random but the pattern is repeatable and that is important if you doing a run of knives. If you are looking for a new, hot handle material we believe this is could be it.
DewCarta™ comes in a variety of colors. It will grind and buff up similar to other canvas phenolics. Rough grind it or sand blast it for a rough finish or buff it up for a deep, lustrous shine buff it with white and then some pink buff.
This is exciting new handle material for the knife market. We will be working with Dewey to develop some additional colors and patterns. Currently it is available only in pairs of scales in one thickness. If you have a certain color combination you would like to see in this material, let us know.
