Pivot Lap

  • Quality KnifeDogs Brand
  • 3 Bushings: 1/4", 3/16" & 1/8"
  • O1 steel Hardened "puck" and bushings to 61/62RC

Use these pivot laps to sand down your pivot's or stand offs perfectly square and with perfect control.

How to use these - Method 1:
1. Select your bushing and put it into the base ("puck"). Tighten the set screw to pull the bushing bottom flush to the bottom of the puck. These are machined slightly off set so the bushing always pulls flush to the bottom of the puck.
2. Using a flat surface (granite - flat steel, glass - something flat), lay out a piece of sand paper. Start with a 120 grit.
3. Insert your pivot (or stand off) into the bushing and pushed plunger down on top of it. The pivot will want to fall out of the bottom hole.
4. Lay the whole thing on your sand paper and move it back and forth a few times while you are pushing down on the plunger. Each stroke takes a bit off your pivot.
5. Remove the pivot and measure. Repeat until you get the length you need.  It just took longer to read than it will take to do.

Method 2: Repeatable to a certain size:
3. Stack spacer bushings (not included- Use tubing or a larger stand off sized to the exact length you need.) onto the plunger. Then insert your pivot (or stand off) into the bushing and pushed plunger down on top of it.

Great product!
Bought this set 'just in case' we needed to adjust the length of some pivots for a custom folder. Thought it would be a quick and dirty way to get the job done and didn't expect a whole lot from the product given the price.

To our surprise, its a fantastic little set -- very complete, very high quality and perfect for this type of job. Wound up not needing it for the job it was purchased for, but have placed this in the 'good tool' pile for future use.

If you are in to replacing pivots on knives or are building a custom, this is one nice tool that should be in your toolkit.
